Our History
Vittorio and Rosina’s experience in the tourist industry began in the early 1950s, when they both worked in the first hotels in Andalo. Vittorio, from a small village in Alta Val di Non, was the “handyman” at Hotel Maria, while Rosina worked as a maid at Hotel Piz Galin.
This is where they met, fell in love, and later married in 1959. With the savings from their work, they bought a plot of land to fulfil the dream of a home of their own for the family that was beginning to grow. With the determination and spirit of sacrifice typical of the people of these mountains, they built their first house, giving life to the “great adventure” of Negritella, our hotel in Andalo.
The name they chose was no accident and reflects Rosina’s passion for flowers: Negritella is a tiny high-mountain flower with a delicate chocolate scent. A few years later, they put their vocation for hospitality to good use with Villa Negritella, creating the first two apartments rented out during the summer.
During the 1960s, the first ski lifts to the Paganella were built in Andalo. Vittorio realised that this was a special opportunity to seize and decided to take a leap, putting himself on the line to develop his business.
On 1 July 1970, the Pensione Negritella officially opened with 14 rooms… which soon became 21 in 1974 with the Albergo Negritella, proving that his intuition had been right.
Meanwhile, the family grew with the birth of their three children—Angela, Teresa and Giovanni. Vittorio looked after the kitchen and Rosina the rooms, united by a shared “passion for hospitality”: giving great importance to human relationships and welcoming guests into the warmth of a family. Guests soon became friends, forming small groups that would meet at Negritella year after year.
Tourism in Andalo continued to develop, and a new cableway company, Paganella 2001, was founded, driven by the dynamism of local entrepreneurs; Vittorio naturally joined as a shareholder and “activist”.
It was time to “change pace”. In 1978, strengthened by a growing family, Vittorio and Rosina purchased adjacent land that allowed the hotel to double in size. Work began immediately, with the Hotel Negritella reopening at Christmas 1979 with 30 rooms, a new kitchen, a new restaurant, an elevator and a garage. The goal was achieved even though, on 22 September 1979, Vittorio suffered a serious accident, falling from the roof during construction, leaving his legs almost impaired.
With great tenacity and willpower, and thanks to the support of family and friends, he overcame this challenge. In the meantime, the children, aware of the difficult moment and firmly upholding their parents’ principles, joined the hotel’s management, pushing ahead with many projects.
In 1989, capacity was improved to 37 rooms, adding a range of services that enabled the upgrade to a three-star hotel.
In 2002, we purchased the nearby Hotel Zeni, expanding both accommodation (reaching 56 rooms) and services by doubling the common areas, where we subsequently created the new restaurant, the miniclub, the game room, the reading room and the wellness centre.
The family also grew with five grandchildren Eleonora, Clarissa, Gianmarco, Cristiano and Gianmaria, all well integrated and highly motivated in the family business: a great source of pride for us and, above all, for grandparents Rosina and Vittorio!
From here, the story continued with years of ongoing work, change and innovation, in both facilities and services. In 2007 we created the new Hall, furnished in an alpine style that has since inspired all new spaces, including the rooms.
In 2016 we introduced Negrita, our mascot: a beautiful fuchsia flower, a giant negritella that adores children and plays with them in daily activities. This is how our kids’ areas became fully branded: Negrita Babyland (miniclub), Negrita Kinder Paradise (game room), and, in the garden, Negrita Adventure World.
After refurbishing several themed rooms, Enchanted Forest, Four Seasons and Fairy-Tale Night, we created the new wellness centre “Chalet Negritella Coccole & Relax” to expand the offer for grown-up guests.
n 2020 we renovated the bar area, inaugurating the Chalet Negritella Alpine Lounge, a brighter, larger space that smells of alpine wood and cherished memories.
Nel 2020 ristrutturiamo la zona bar inaugurando lo Chalet Negritella Alpine Lounge, uno spazio più ampio e luminoso, che profuma di legno e dei ricordi lontani.
The same year we proudly celebrated our first 50 years of activity.
A few months after this important anniversary, Grandpa Vittorio passed away, handing the baton to all of us. Inspired by his spirit and vision, in 2023–2024 we completed a major renovation that involved more than 60 people—craftsmen and collaborators—using new techniques and sustainable materials.
The works included adding one extra floor, replacing the roof, upgrading the former Classic Rooms into the brand-new Panoramic Rooms, enlarging other rooms to create 6 new Family Suites for maximum comfort, expanding the common areas and installing a latest-generation photovoltaic system, always keeping an eye on sustainability.
NEW IN 2025: a brand-new garage to guarantee a covered parking space for all guests and the “Piazzetta Negritella”, a lively space to enjoy—for both grown-ups and children!
And for the future? We certainly won’t stand still. We have many projects and dreams in the pipeline that you’ll discover only by coming back to visit us! As Grandpa Vittorio used to say: “For a healthy and beautiful life, summer and winter, always at Negritella in Andalo… and the traditional JAWOHL!”
